Sustainable energy solutions developer Invenergy LLC is among the winners in a renewable energy tender by Canada’s Hydro-Quebec Distribution, securing a 350-MW wind project in the province of Quebec.
The Chicago-based company said on Wednesday it was successful with the Pohenegamook–Picard–Saint-Antonin (PPSA) Wind Energy Centre, a project co-developed with Alliance de l'energie de l'Est.
The awarded project will deliver electricity to utility Hydro-Quebec when it goes online in December 2026. The output is estimated to be enough to supply around 50,000 homes.
Calling for an investment of almost CAD 900 million (USD 658.3m/EUR 615m), the wind farm will be located in the administrative region of Bas-Saint-Laurent. Its construction is planned to be launched in 2025 once all permitting procedures have been completed.
Hydro-Quebec allocated bids totalling 1,303 MW in two request for proposals targeting 480 MW of electricity from renewable energy sources and 300 MW of power generated by wind farms in particular. Invenergy's proposal was selected in the 480-MW call for tenders. Both rounds were held to help meet the growing demand for power in Quebec.
