Germany’s Innogy SE (ETR:IGY) has agreed to join the 600-MW Dublin Array wind power project in Irish waters in a deal that marks its entry into the Irish offshore wind market.
The renewables, grid and retail subsidiary of Germany utility RWE AG (ETR:RWE) said on Monday it has entered a strategic partnership with Irish company Saorgus Energy, taking an equal share of the project.
The German firm said it will lead the next phase of the project with support from Saorgus Energy, the original developer of the scheme. The partners will continue the development of the project through to securing planning approval.
Further expanding the company’s 925-MW portfolio of installed offshore wind capacity, the acquisition aligns with Innogy’s strategy for sustainable growth, said Hans Buenting, chief operating officer renewables at Innogy.
The Dublin Array wind park will be installed on the Kish and Bray Banks in the Irish Sea. The project’s timetable envisages work in 2019-2020 towards the financing and procurement necessary to ready the project for construction.
This is Innogy’s second wind project in Ireland following the 10-MW Dromadda Beg onshore wind farm. It acquired the project, which is currently under construction, last summer.
