Infranode to make wind-themed investment of USD 145m in Danish port

Nordic infrastructure fund Infranode plans to invest up to DKK 1 billion (USD 145m/EUR 134m) in the port of Esbjerg in Denmark to set up new port infrastructure facilities for the offshore wind turbine industry.

This will be Infranode’s second major investment in Denmark and it will be made gradually as wind turbine component makers and service providers expand their activities, a press statement says.

The new facilities will be dedicated to the storage, pre-assembly and production of components for offshore wind projects. Infranode’s investment in the project will create up to 2,000 jobs.

In December, the fund backed the construction of what it said at the time was the largest solar project in the Nordics and the seventh largest in Europe -- Vandel 3. According to Joel Lofroth, who is in charge of Infranode’s activities in Denmark, the fund is looking forward to making further investments in Danish infrastructure.
