Infigen eyes longer blades for 41-turbine Aussie wind farm - report

Oct 20, 2014 - Australian firm Infigen Energy (ASX:IFN) has applied for approval to boost the length of the blades of its proposed 41-turbine Capital wind farm 2 project in New South Wales, the Canberra Times said Friday.

A modification request has been submitted to the New South Wales government’s Planning and Environment department to increase the length of the facility’s 41 turbines to 63 metres (207 feet) from 57 metres. The project has already been cleared by the New South Wales government.

The 50-MW wind farm will be an extension to Infigen’s 140.7-MW Capital wind farm and will have 19 metres longer blades, if the firm’s application is approved. The overall height of the proposed turbines, however, will not be changed and will stay at 94 metres, Infigen’s general manager of development David Griffin said, as quoted by the newspaper.

The 140.7-MW Capital wind park has been operational since the start of 2010. The plant is powered by 67 Suzlon turbines, each with a capacity of 2.1 MW. Last year, the developer said it was examining the possible disposal of the park.
