Indian power company NTPC Ltd (BOM:532555) has advanced its debut into the wind power segment by inviting bids for the construction of 100 MW of wind capacity in the country.
It is seeking experienced engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors for two 50-MW projects or for a single 100-MW plant. The wind farms can be located in any state in India, according to the official tender document.
The scope of the tender covers everything from development to commissioning and long-term operation and maintenance (O&M) of the plants. A pre-bid conference for clarification for bidders is planned for June 3, while the last date and time for receipt of bids is June 21.
At present, the state-owned utility owns and operates 40,000 MW of power plants, only 2% of which generate electricity from renewables -- namely solar and hydropower. In the photovoltaic (PV) field, it has 110 MW up and running and several times more capacity under construction.
Previously, NTPC has thought of installing wind parks in a number of Indian states. The current auction is its first move towards the wind industry.
