India's Azure Power picks Siemens Gamesa turbines for 1st wind project

August 12 (Renewables Now) - Indian renewable power producer Azure Power Global Ltd (NYSE:AZRE) has ordered onshore wind turbines totalling 346 MW from a unit of Spanish supplier Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) for its first wind project.

Azure, which has so far been focusing on solar power, has now signed a master supply agreement with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Power Pvt Ltd for the supply of 96 units of SG 3.6-145 machines. Turbine deliveries as part of the contract are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2023.

"We are pleased to partner with Siemens Gamesa in our first wind project. Wind energy is going to be an imperative element for delivering firm, reliable and clean energy to achieve the energy transition vision of the country. This partnership will create long-term supply visibility while securing sustainable value for our stakeholders,” commented Azure’s CEO Harsh Shah.

The Indian company did not give any details about the wind project.
