(SeeNews) – Oct 4, 2013 - The Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA) said Wednesday it had called for Expressions of Interest for a geothermal surface exploration project in Ethiopia.
ICEIDA and the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) are co-funding the project whose aim is to encourage and support geothermal exploration and capacity building in East Africa. The geothermal exploration project is to help countries in the region boost their geothermal knowledge and capacity.
Now ICEIDA is accepting expressions of interest from experienced and qualified companies from any country. The suitable bidders will be able to later take part in the Request for Proposals stage of the project in Tendaho Alalobeda.
This announcement comes after Iceland-based Reykjavik Geothermal said last Friday it had reached an agreement with the Ethiopian government to invest USD 4 billion (EUR 3bn) over eight to 10 years to build two 500-MW geothermal plants in the region.
ICEIDA and the Government of Ethiopia are partnering on the geothermal initiative that will see surface exploration studies will be conducted in priority sites in Ethiopia.
