(ADPnews) - Sep 15, 2010 - Spanish renewable energy firm Iberdrola Renovables (MCE:IBR) will launch an 80 MW wind farm in Romania next year, Bucharest-based daily Ziarul Financiar reported on Sunday.
Taking into account the farm's capacity, the investment is likely to reach EUR 120 million -140 million (USD 154m-180m), the daily wrote.
The wind farm, kocated in Mihai Viteazu, Constanta county, has already signed a grid-connection contract.
In April, the Romanian Government authorised Iberdrola Renovables to hook up a total 1,500 MW of wind power to the national electricity grid. The licence allows Iberdrola Renovables to start its Dobruja project, which envisages the start-up of 50 wind farms in the region of Dobruja, southeastern Romania. The wind farms will be built between 2011 and 2017. Their combined energy output could meet the needs of nearly one million households in Romania saving annual emissions of 2.6 million tonnes CO2.
The Spanish company opened an office in Romania's capital -- Bucharest, last year, as part of its ongoing plan to extend presence in Eastern Europe. It is implementing all its projects in Romania with company Eolica Dobrogea, owned by Swiss engineering group NEK and Romanian companies C-Tech and Rokura.
Last year, the Spanish company channelled nearly EUR 100 million into renewable energy projects in Eastern Europe.
