April 19 (Renewables Now) - Belfast-based Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries Ltd (H&W) said today it will supply suction buckets for Dong Energy A/S' (CPH:DENERG) 450-MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project in Germany.

The 56-turbine wind farm will use two types of steel foundations -- 20 suction bucket jackets and 36 monopiles.

H&W has been awarded the contract by ST3 Offshore sp z o o, which is the supplier for the 20 suction bucket jackets. The Northern Ireland firm said it will manufacture "a significant number of suction buckets," supporting up to 80 jobs in Belfast. These will be exported to ST3's plant in Stettin, Poland, where they will be fitted before foundation installation at the wind farm site during 2018.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 will use MHI Vestas' 8-MW wind turbines and is expected to come online in 2019.
