Japanese diversified group Hitachi Ltd (TYO:6501) intends to set up by the end of March 2016 a line to produce nacelles for 5-MW downwind turbines for offshore use, a company spokesman told Bloomberg on Wednesday.
Hitachi plans to build the production line at a facility in Japan's Ibaraki prefecture where it currently manufactures nacelles for 2-MW turbines, the company representative said, as cited by the news agency.
Previously, the Nikkei newspaper said that the company would be investing several billions of yen to set up the new production line. The spokesperson, however, did not wish to comment on the investment amount when asked by Bloomberg.
On Tuesday, Hitachi’s first 5-MW downwind turbines commenced power generation at a plant in Kamisu City, Ibaraki prefecture, the news agency said.
