Hitachi Ltd (TYO:6501) wants to grow its wind power division in Asia, including with a new offshore partnership in Taiwan, so that it generates sales of JPY 100 billion (USD 995m/EUR 881m) in 2020, the Nikkei Asian Review reports.
The Japanese diversified group is launching an offshore wind partnership in Taiwan this autumn with local steel products maker China Steel Corp (TPE:2002), as it expects to benefit from strong demand for its wind turbines there, according to the report.
Hitachi’s role will be to supply offshore wind turbines with capacities around 5 MW, while China Steel will be in charge of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work. The Japanese group expects to achieve annual sales of JPY 20 billion to JPY 30 billion from this alliance, the publication says.
Meanwhile, the company is also considering opportunities for selling onshore turbines in both Vietnam and the Philippines, Nikkei Asian Review added.
