Himark licenses biorefinery patent, ethanol production technology to Western Plains
Dec 7, 2011 - Canadian waste-to-energy technology firm Himark Biogas has licensed its integrated biorefinery patent and patent-pending enhanced ethanol production technology to US ethanol producer Western Plains Energy (WPE) for CAD 15 million (USD 14.8m/EUR 11.1m).
Western Plains uses the patent at its plant that produces 50 million gallons (189.3 million litres) of fuel grade ethanol per year in the state of Kansas, Himark said in a statement yesterday.
WPE's integrated system features anaerobic digestion and enhanced integrated ethanol production technology that will boost the plant's ethanol output by 10%. The system will produce enough energy to meet the needs of the ethanol plant.
Himark plans to license its know-how and patents to other ethanol producers in the US.
