HelveticWind to buy 16-MW wind farm in Italy

Swiss utility BKW AG (SWX:BKW) said Friday the HelveticWind partnership has signed an agreement to acquire a planned 16-MW wind park in Genzano di Lucania, southern Italy.

The project comprises five turbines that will operate from November, producing 42 GWh a year which represents the annual consumption of 9,300 households.

HelveticWind will purchase the plant upon its completion. The joint venture already has a 36-MW wind park in Italy, as well as five wind parks totaling 85 MW in Germany.

The HelveticWind partnership was founded in March 2010 by BKW Energie AG and Energie Wasser Bern (ewb) and expanded in January 2012 with EBL (Genossenschaft Elektra Baselland), EKZ Renewables AG and SN Erneuerbare Energie AG (SNEE). BKW and ewb each hold 29% of the voting rights.
