August 9 (Renewables Now) - Heerema Marine Contractors, part of the Heerema Group, has won a job on the 900-MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind power complex in Taiwan, it announced today.

The contract was awarded by Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and its scope covers the transport and installation of 111 turbine foundations along with the installation of two large offshore substations. In addition to that, Heerema will take care of onshore marshalling services as well as seabed preparations and scour protection.

The Dutch marine contractor said it will use its Aegir fast sailing heavy lift vessel to carry out the installation. The work will be done in the period 2021-2022.

This latest award comes less than a month after Heerema secured a contract to support the construction of another Taiwanese offshore wind park -- the 109.2-MW Changhua project.

To be located off Taiwan’s Changhua County, the Changhua 1 and 2a sites will feature Siemens Gamesa 8.0-167 DD turbines.
