Hawai'i BioEnergy to supply bio-fuels to Alaska Airlines
(SeeNews) – Jul 25, 2013 – Alaska Airlines (NYSE:ALK) signed an agreement with Hawai'i BioEnergy for the purchase of biofuel for its fleet, the two companies informed.
The financial value of the deal was not revealed.
The bio energy company is expected to increase the production of sustainable fuels within five years of regulatory approval. This will allow Alaska Airlines to begin getting sustainable jet fuel for the Hawaii flights as soon as the autumn of 2018.
Alaska Airlines is Hawai'i BioEnergy's second customer, and the first air carrier among them. Hawaiian Electric Co. (OTCMKTS:HAWEL) had already agreed to purchase 10 million gallons (37.85m litres) of fuel a year for power generation to the state. The deal is still pending approval by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.
