August 22 (Renewables Now) - UK start-up Habitat Energy today said it has been picked to operate a 40-MW battery storage facility in the UK on behalf of clean energy asset investor Arlington Energy.

The Greenfield Road energy storage system is currently being built and once completed will rank among the country’s largest ones. It is scheduled to be put on stream in October and will be trading in the day ahead, intraday and balancing mechanism markets and will also benefit from ancillary service contracts, where possible.

Habitat Energy’s task will be to provide optimisation services for the installation through its algorithmic trading platform and facilitate its marketing. The system will be registered as a balancing mechanism (BM) unit.

The Oxford-based optimisation and trading platform services provider is also involved in a 50-MW Oxford battery project with Pivot Power, which is planned to be completed in 2020.
