Dutch firm GustoMSC will work on the design of floating foundations for turbines at the 100-MW Dongbu offshore wind park in South Korea together with a local partner.
The design and engineering company, Seoul-based developer Halla Wind Energy and Korean Maritime Consultants (KOMAC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as part of a large Dutch trade mission to Korea, GustoMSC said Wednesday. They will develop and design together the GustoMSC Tri-Floater foundation for the Dongbu park near Jeju Island, a project developed by Halla.
Under the deal, GustoMSC is in charge of the basic design and KOMAC of the detailed design of the floater. A manufacturer has not yet been selected.
The Dutch company explained that the GustoMSC Tri-Floater is semi-submersible and has a three column, slender, and brace-less hull. It can be customised for different types of offshore wind turbines.
Jeju aims to meet 100% of its energy needs with renewables by 2030.
