Greek manufacturer Hellenic Cables SA has been awarded a contract to supply 66-kV inter-array cables and accessories for the 1,075-MW Seagreen offshore wind farm project off the Scottish coast.
The company was hired by Seaway 7, the renewables unit of UK engineering services provider Subsea 7 SA (FRA:SOCA). Seaway 7 is the contractor responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the foundations and inter-array cables.
Hellenic Cables said it will design, manufacture, test and supply around 320 kilometres (198.8 miles) of 66-kV XLPE-insulated inter-array cables and associated equipment. It will produce the cables in Corinth, Greece, at its vertically-integrated submarine cables plant.
Delivery is planned to take place by early 2022.
UK utility SSE Plc (LON:SSE) recently took the final investment decision (FID) for the Seagreen project, in which French oil and gas giant Total SA (EPA:FP) will acquire a 51% interest.
Last week, SSE said it would rename the Seagreen phases II and III to Berwick Bank and Marr Bank, respectively, to distinguish them from the more advanced Seagreen I.
Seagreen I will be located 27 kilometres off the Angus Coast in the Firth of Forth. Its construction is slated to finalise in 2022/23.
