Goldwind agrees grid connection for 321-MW Aussie wind project

Goldwind Australia has struck a connection agreement with Australian Energy Operations Pty Ltd for linking to the grid its 321-MW Moorabool wind park in Victoria.

The contract covers terms and conditions for the wind farm’s interconnection into the state’s transmission network, as well as the design, construction and ongoing maintenance of a 30-km transmission line. The expansion of the Elaine Terminal Station, located in proximity to the 131-MW Mt Mercer wind farm, is also within the scope of the deal, Goldwind Australia said on Thursday.

Melbourne-based Beon Energy Solutions was hired by Australian Energy Operations to design, build, operate and mainten the additional transmission facilities.

To be located near the town of Ballan, the Moorabool wind park will use 107 turbines, capable of producing enough electricity for around 200,000 average Victorian households per year. According to the project’s website, construction of the plant is slated to begin by the middle of this year, while commercial operations are expected late in 2019.

Goldwind Australia is the Aussie unit of Chinese wind turbine maker Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Tech Co Ltd (HKG:2208).
