Sep 11, 2012 - US waste-to-energy company Global Clean Energy Inc (PINK:GCEI) yesterday said it had started planning the installation of an integrated waste gasification-to-energy demonstration system in Canada's province of Quebec.
The project will cost USD 15 million (EUR 11.8m) to USD 20 million, Global Clean Energy estimates.
The system will comprise a gasifier with capacity to process 15 tonnes to 20 tonnes of biomass per day. The construction of the gasifier represents the second project phase. The company is now negotiating this phase with the city of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield which requires the integration of gasification with an anaerobic digestion system. The second phase will serve as a pilot for the third phase of the waste-to-energy system of the city. The first phase proved that the company's pilot-scale gasifier produces synthetic gas, after testing with mixtures of carbonaceous materials including coal, plastic, rubber and municipal solid waste.
Global Clean Energy said the successful testing of the system would allow it to begin plans to produce commercial systems for the USD-100-billion North American waste-to-energy market.
