London-based fund manager and clean infrastructure investor Glennmont Partners announced on Thursday it has reached commercial operations at the 211-MW Piiparinmaki wind farm in Finland.
Glennmont, part of US-based asset management company Nuveen, owns the wind park together with Japanese electric utility Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9503), which owns a 15% stake.
Built without using any subsidies, Piiparinmaki is located in the regions of Kainuu and North Ostrobothnia and consists of 13 units of the V150 4.2-MW turbines and 28 V150 5.6-MW machines by Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems. The output of 24 of these turbines will be sold to search engine giant Google LLC through a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA), while the remaining power will be offered through a merchant agreement with Swedish state-owned utility Vattenfall.
Helsinki-based Ilmatar provided balance of plant and construction management services and will oversee the wind farm’s operations. The wind park is expected to generate almost 700 GWh of electricity per year.
Glennmont acquired the Piiparinmaki project from developer Ilmatar Energy in September 2019. Kansai Electric joined as a minority shareholder in the following year.
