Oct 17, 2012 - Renewable energy consultancy GL Garrad Hassan on Tuesday unveiled a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to back the country's efforts to develop its offshore wind resources.
Taiwan's waters are estimated to have potential for more than 6 GW of wind capacity at depths of less than 50 metres (164 ft), according to the announcement. The Taiwanese government this year released a plan to accelerate offshore wind development and support green energy economics that envisages a demonstration project in 2015 with 3,000 MW of capacity targeted by 2030, GL Garrad Hassan further said.
Under the agreement, GL Garrad Hassan will collaborate with ITRI on wind energy technological developments relating to industrial technology, technology strategy, as well as technical information and training. The partners will conduct joint projects, exchange data in the research and development of industrial technology and work to upgrade the skills of scientists and engineers.
The consultancy said it would share its knowledge on issues such as offshore wind farm design and infrastructure, project management, risk assessment and certification.
