January 31 (Renewables Now) - US biofuels company Gevo Inc (NASDAQ:GEVO) announced on Monday that it has started the process of bringing its renewable natural gas (RNG) plant online in Northwest Iowa.

The facility, known as NW Iowa RNG, is wholly-owned by Gevo through project company Gevo NW Iowa RNG LLC. It was designed to use dairy manure as feedstock and is expected to produce around 355,000 MMBtu of RNG per year, Gevo said.

In August 2021, the Iowa-based project company signed binding agreements with BP Canada Energy Marketing Corp and BP Products North America Inc to sell them the plant’s production output. The gas is expected to be sold into the California market under dispensing agreements that BP has in place with Clean Energy Fuels Corp (NASDAQ:CLNE), a US RNG fuelling specialist, Gevo added.
