Germany has launched a tender for a new site in the North Sea, seeking to award 980 MW of offshore wind capacity.
The auction was opened on Friday by the Federal Network Agency and proposals can be submitted until September 1. The tender is capped at EUR 0.064 (USD 0.071) per kWh.
The wind turbines that will be installed on the site must be commissioned by 2027, the Federal Network Agency said on Friday.
The regulator noted that legal admission rights are in place for the site by a company that originally planned to build an offshore wind park there.
The procedure for the auction is based on the so-called "central model" which was introduced last year. Under this model, the tender includes not only the funding and the grid connection of the wind turbines but gives the winner the right to apply with the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) for planning approval for the development of the site.
The tender supports Germany's ambition to boost its offshore wind capacity to at least 30 GW at the end of the decade and to more than 70 GW by 2045.
