Germany's Federal Network Agency on Tuesday opened a tender, seeking proposals for 152.02 MW of biomethane capacity.
The deadline for submitting a project is October 4.
The tender is open to bids for biomethane-powered plants with a capacity in the range of 151 kW to 20 MW. To take part in the round, the projects must have received approval or have been reported in the market data register by September 13 at the latest.
The tender is capped at EUR 0.188 (USD 0.189) per kWh, only slightly below the permissible maximum value of EUR 0.190 per kWh from the previous round.
In January, the Federal Network Agency awarded 148 MW in the country's first auction for biomethane-powered plants with the volume-weighted average price standing at EUR 0.178 per kWh.
According to the German association of energy and water industries BDEW, biomethane could replace about a fifth of Germany's gas imports from Russia in 2021 if the existing production potential in the country is tapped.
