Sep 20, 2013 - German wind-turbine maker Nordex (ETR:NDX1) said today the Munich municipal utility, Stadtwerke Muenchen, has acquired another of its wind farms in France, with a capacity of 10 MW.
The wind farm has four multi-megawatt turbines already in operation and can supply up to 8,000 households with electricity. The facility, named Chaussee de Cesar Sud, is located near Bourges in central France, where Nordex has erected wind turbines with a total capacity of 135 MW so far.
This is the second wind farm Stadtwerke Muenchen has acquired from Nordex in France. Florian Bieberbach, CEO of the utility company, said the firm wants to expand on the European market and hopes for more joint projects with Nordex.
On the domestic market Stadtwerke Muenchen plans to produce enough green energy from its own facilities to meet by 2025 the electricity needs of the city of Munich, estimated at 7.5 billion kWh. Wind power is playing a key role in the company's plan to achieve its goal due to its cost efficiency. Stadtwerke Muenchen's strategy foresees self-funding for renewable energy projects. The utility provides electricity, gas, heating and drinking water for the municipality of Munich.
