Dec 5, 2013 - German biogas firm KTG Energie (ETR:KB7) said on Wednesday it has successfully finalised the takeover of heat storage specialist Latherm, acquiring its key patents for mobile heat storage containers.
Financial details of the deal remained undisclosed.
The acquired company will operate under the name of Latherm Energie AG in future. The firm develops mobile heat storage containers, in which waste heat from cogeneration power plants as well as from biogas and landfill gas plants is stored for road transportation.
Latherm uses sodium acetate as a storage medium. The substance has a high storage capacity and is also used as additive in the food industry.
KTG Energie will use Latherm's patented storage technology to increase the efficiency of its biogas plants by making use of the generated waste heat, KTG Energie's CFO, Olaf Schwarz, said.
