German Infineon signs licence agreement with Chinese Goldwind Science and Technology
(ADPnews) - Nov 25, 2010 - German semiconductor maker Infineon (ETR:IFXA) said on Tuesday it signed a licence agreement with Chinese wind power equipment maker Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology (SHE:002202) for core components for wind turbine production.
Under to the deal, Goldwind has received the licence to produce Infineon's Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) stacks, used in converters of megawatt-grade wind turbines. In addition, the German company will supply IGBT stacks to Goldwind.
Infineon has been supplying IGBT stacks for converters developed and manufactured by Goldwind since 2007.
IGBTs are power semiconductors which enable the efficient conversion of the variable frequency output from the generator to a fixed frequency appropriate for the grid in the region concerned.
