German Infineon enters into licence agreement with Chinese Goldwind Science and Technology
(ADPnews) - Nov 23, 2010 - German semiconductor maker Infineon (ETR:IFX) said today it had signed a licence agreement with Chinese wind power equipment maker Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology (SHE:002202) for core components for manufacturing wind turbines.
According to the deal, Goldwind gets licence to produce Infineon's Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) stacks, used in converters of megawatt-grade wind turbines.
In addition, the German company will supply IGBT stacks to Goldwind.
Infineon has been supplying IGBT stacks to converters developed and manufactured by Goldwind since 2007.
IGBTs are power semiconductors which enable the efficient conversion of the variable frequency output from the generator to a fixed frequency appropriate for the grid in the region concerned.
