German Bard to cut 120 jobs due to lack of orders

Aug 21, 2013 - Troubled German offshore wind farm developer Bard Engineering said on Monday it will lay off 120 workers due to the lack of new orders after the completion of the 400 MW Bard Offshore 1 wind park in the North Sea.

After the job cuts the company will have 540 employees, but may have to resort to further lay-offs.

Bard has another 400 MW wind farm project in Germany, which got a regulatory approval, but cannot keep its current workforce due to a longer initial phase of planning and procurement of materials.

Bard shut down its steel structures manufacturing in Cuxhaven in April after the search for a buyer turned to be unsuccessful. The company decided to sell parts of its business in response to the difficulties in the offshore wind industry which is struggling with overcapacity.

The wind farm developer is planning repositioning on the wind energy market by providing services to third parties for off- and onshore wind turbines.
