GE to service 402 wind turbines for EDP Renovaveis in USA
Oct 12, 2011 - US General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) will service 402 wind power turbines of 1.5 MW for Portuguese green energy firm EDP Renovaveis (ELI:EDPR) under a three-year contract signed with the latter's US subsidiary, GE said in a press release.
The maintenance services will be provided at five wind farms in three Midwestern states in the USA.
The agreement will allow EDP Renewables North America to meet its goals of boosting the reliability, profitability and operating performance of its wind fleet, according to the company's chief assets operation officer Bryan Hayes.
On the other hand, this is one of GE's largest service contracts for wind turbines so far. Contracts for over 3,300 wind turbines, representing 20% of GE's total installed capacity, have been signed in the past 12 months.
EDP Renovaveis CEO Ana Maria Fernandes recently said that the US market was the main driver of the growth in wind power output in the first half of 2011.
