Gamesa to invest EUR 150m in UK-based hub for global offshore wind business
(ADPnews) - Nov 29, 2010 - Spanish wind energy firm Gamesa (MCE:GAM) last week said it planned to invest EUR 150 million (USD 198.6m) by 2014 to establish its global centre for offshore wind operations in the UK.
The company intends to base the global headquarters of its offshore business in London, and to establish an offshore technology research & development (R&D) centre and a turbine blade production plant in the UK. The company also plans to provide port logistics, operation and maintenance services from UK ports.
The wind power developer considers to start work on the planned projects in 2011, expecting to open 1,000 direct workplaces and 800 jobs indirectly at local suppliers.
"The United Kingdom’s resolute decision to enact an ambitious offshore plan, along with the country's support for foreign investment and the availability of large ports - which are essential in this business - convinced us to make the decision to base the global headquarters of our offshore activity in the UK", Gamesa chairman Jorge Calvet said.
