Gamesa to decide on UK turbine plant site in Oct 2011 - report
Sep 28, 2011 - By the end of October Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa (MCE:GAM) is to choose the location of its new turbine plant in the UK, BBC News reported.
The company is to build a wind turbine factory in either Dundee in Scotland or Hartlepool in northeastern England. "Basically what we are looking at is to have the right port facilities but also port facilities which will enable us in the future to expand as we believe in five or seven years time the market is going to be very big," Jorge Calvet, chairman and CEO of Gamesa, told BBC.
Just recently, Gamesa opened a research and development centre for offshore wind near Glasgow. Earlier this year, the company unveiled that the UK would become the centre of its offshore wind operations. According to its estimates, Gamesa's offshore wind platform in the UK will create more than 1,800 direct and indirect jobs locally.
