Spanish firm Gamesa SA (BME:GAM) on Tuesday unveiled plans for a new integrated factory in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh with an initial capacity to make blades for up to 300 MW of turbines.
The company has already started working on the manufacturing facility, which is located in the Agribusiness Special Economic Zone IFFCO Kisan SEZ (IKSEZ) in Nellore. The project is estimated to require a total investment of some INR 3 billion (USD 45m/EUR 40m). This is the last step of Gamesa’s EUR-100-million (USD 113.8m) investment programme in India, which was launched in 2014.
The first stage of the scheme envisages the establishment of a blade production unit for the G114-2.0 MW turbine model. The machine, which is custom-tailored to boost the wind output at low- and medium-wind speed sites, has a rotor diameter of 114 metres (374 ft).
The facility is scheduled for commissioning in August this year. It is expected to employ more than 1,000 locals.
At present, Gamesa has factories in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat states. The firm is now looking to expand its presence in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, according to Gamesa India chairman and managing director, Ramesh Kymal.
