Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa SA (BME:GAM) said Thursday it has received an order for the supply and installation of 100 MW of turbines in India from domestic utility group Tata Power Co Ltd (BOM:500400).
Under the terms of the turnkey contract, the value of which remained undisclosed, the company will deliver 50 units of its G97-2.0 MW class S turbines for the Nimbagallu wind farm in Andhra Pradesh state. Installed on 104-metre towers, the machines are custom-designed to deliver maximum output at low wind speed sites in the country, the manufacturer explained.
As part of the deal, Gamesa will also erect the turbines, as well as continue to provide long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the facility upon its completion. Commissioning is scheduled for May 2017.
Since 2009, the Spanish firm has installed nearly 2,270 MW of turbines in India and currently services more than 2,000 MW, according to the press release. The current deal is its first one with the developer and independent power producer (IPP), part of Indian conglomerate Tata Group.
