February 17 (SeeNews) - Spanish wind turbine supplier Gamesa (BME:GAM) said on Wednesday it has signed a contract with German renewables developer Energiekontor for a 13.5-MW wind farm repowering project in northwestern Germany.
Under the terms of the order, Gamesa will replace eight of the existing 11 pieces of 1-MW turbines at the Debstedt wind farm in Lower Saxony with three 4.5-MW G128 machines. The original plant has been operational since 1998.
"This contract marks a milestone in our strategy for Northern Europe as it is the first order to supply the G128-4.5 MW in such a market as Germany,” said Martin Hake, Head of Sales for Gamesa in Germany.
The Spanish company will start delivering the turbines in August 2016, with the goal of commissioning the wind park in December. It will also operate and maintain the plant for 18 years.
The order was received during the final quarter of 2015.
