French Tereos ties up with PureCircle for stevia products

(ADPnews) - Sep 23, 2010 - French sugar and ethanol maker Tereos and Malaysia-based PureCircle (LON:PURE) announced yesterday the signature of a deal to set up a 50/50 joint venture company for the development of stevia products.
PureCircle is a leading producer of stevia extracts. Stevia is a natural sweetener with a high sweetening capacity, but less expensive than sugar and with lower calorie content.
The JV company, named Tereos PureCircle Solutions, will market stevia extracts and develop innovative solutions combining sugar and stevia for the agrifood industry, particularly for the Brazilian market, where Tereos is well-placed.
Tereos PureCircle Solutions will exclusively distribute its products on the markets of France, Belgium, Czech Republic and Italy, as well as non-exclusively in several other European countries.
The JV will operate from Tereos' French offices and will benefit from the support of PureCircle supply chain and research and development teams.
