French Areva Renewables snaps up EUR-400m contract in Germany
(ADPnews) - Dec 23, 2010 - French nuclear group Areva (EPA:CEI) said today it won, via its unit Areva Renewables, a contract in Germany to supply wind power turbines worth EUR 400 million (USD 524.4m).
Areva will deliver 40 turbines of 5 MW each to Trianel, an association of German electric utilities, and will be responsible for their installation, testing and maintenance.
The contract also envisages an option to supply a further 40 turbines in 2011.
The turbines are meant for the offshore wind farm Borkum West II in the North Sea.
Operations will start at the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013. The turbines will have a total capacity of 200 MW, enough to cover the electricity requirements of some 200,000 households.
