April 26 (Renewables Now) - Norway’s Fred. Olsen Windcarrier (FOWIC) said that it has secured a contract from turbine maker Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) to transport and install the turbine fleet for the 496-MW Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm project in French waters.

The job will include the haul of 62 units of the SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbines to a site located some 16 kilometres (9.9 miles) off France’s northwest coast. For this mission, FOWIC will deploy one of its jack-up installation vessels in the spring of 2023,

The Siemens Gamesa contract will give FOWIC its first large transportation and installation project in France, the Norwegian offshore wind contractor said.

The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind project was developed by Ailes Marines, a vehicle that is 100% owned by Spanish utility group Ibedrola SA (BME:SGRE).
