Four bidding for N Carolina offshore wind lease

March 16 (Renewables Now) - The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is today holding a lease sale for a wind development area offshore Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.  

The auction started at 9000 Eastern time and information on BOEM's website shows that four parties participated in both the first and second rounds, with the second-round asking price being USD 342,734 (EUR 319,785).  

The agency announced in January that nine companies have been qualified to compete for the 122,405-acre (49,540-ha) Kitty Hawk lease area. The list includes Avangrid Renewables LLC, Enbridge Holdings (Green Energy) LLC, Shell WindEnergy Inc, Northland Power America Inc, Wind Future LLC, Outer Banks Ocean Energy LLC, PNE Wind USA Inc, Statoil Wind US LLC, and Wpd offshore Alpha LLC.

In December, Norwegian energy group Statoil (STO:STLO) won an auction for a New York offshore wind lease with a record-smashing bid of USD 42.47 million.
