First Wind Energy poised to spend USD 170m on 100 MW project

(ADPnews) - Nov 1, 2010 - Boston-based First Wind Energy LLC is on track to inject USD 170 million (EUR 122m) in a 100 MW wind farm near Oakesdale in the Whitman County, Washington.

The company has proposed to develop the project, which will comprise 50 wind turbines, erected on a 5,000-acre (2-hectare) land leased from local farmers. In line with the permitting process, First Wind Energy is preparing a draft environmental impact statement, which will be available for public in mid-November for a 30-day review.

The developer expects to obtain necessary permissions by mid-2011.

According to the developer's Northwest director, Ben Fairbanks, the site was selected for its combination of prevailing winds and proximity to a transmission line.

When completed, the Whitman wind farm could produce enough electricity for 25,000 households.
