Finnish Moventas, The Switch develop power-train solution for wind turbines

(ADPnews) - Sep 21, 2010 - Finnish wind gear maker Moventas Oy said today that it and home-based magnet generators and converter packages supplier The Switch developed an innovative power-train solution for wind turbines.

FusionDrive integrates gear manufactured by Moventas and a reliable permanent magnet generator by The Switch. It is smaller and lighter than any other solution in the market, the partners said.

The solution simplifies the nacelle structural design via perfect alignment between gear stages and generator, and an integrated lubrication system. It has lower number of bearings and cogging torque. Its construction is made with no current passage through bearings, sliprings or rotor windings.
FusionDrive is designed on a scalable platform that extends from 3 MW to offshore class.
