July 3 (Renewables Now) - Finnish marine and energy technology group Wartsila Corp (HEL:WRT1V) has merged its biogas upgrading technology operations with its biogas liquefaction team to form a unit that offers a one-stop-shop service.
The new subsidiary, Wartsila Biogas Solutions, offers products for biogas upgrading to biomethane and the liquefaction of biomethane into bioLNG. According to the business’ general manager, Arne Jakobsen, the firm’s current market share in this field nears 60%.
Wartsila noted that its biogas technology supports the ongoing trend in Europe and the US to decarbonise the natural gas grid. The Finnish group explained that its technology eliminates carbon from the waste cycle and thus reduces both greenhouse gas effects and the level of carbon intensity. The process used by Wartsila’s biogas upgrading plants recovers more than 99.9% of the biomethane present in raw biogas.
By the end of the year, Wartsila will have delivered two bio-LNG plants to customers in Scandinavia in addition to the one it installed earlier in Skogn, Norway.
