Fast Stop in Elkader becomes Iowa's 12th E15 retailer
Dec 9, 2013 - Fast Stop has started selling E15 at its station in Elkader, Iowa, thus becoming the 12th fuel retailer in the state that sells the blend containing 15% ethanol and 85% petrol.
The retailer also sells E20, E30 and E85 blends to owners of flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs), the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) said on Friday.
E15 is suitable for use in passenger vehicles produced after 2001, or the vast majority of passenger cars in the US responsible for 85% of the country’s total fuel use, IRFA says.
The state of Iowa has 42 ethanol refineries with a combined capacity of some 3.8 billion gallons (14.4bn litres) of ethanol annually. Three cellulosic ethanol facilities are currently under construction, IRFA said.
