January 18 (Renewables Now) - Italy’s Falck Renewables SpA (BIT:FKR) and Madrid-based floating wind specialist BlueFloat Energy have won the rights to develop three floating wind projects totalling 3 GW off the Scottish coast, with Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) as a partner in one case, as part of the ScotWind offshore leasing round.

The Italian-Spanish duo has won a site east of Aberdeen and a site north of Fraserburgh, while Ørsted will join them in the development of a site east of Caithness, Falck announced on Monday.

Subject to obtaining consent, commercial arrangements and grid connections, the future wind projects are scheduled to be operational by the end of the decade.

In total, Crown Estate Scotland (CES) selected 17 out of 74 project applications as winners in the ScotWind Leasing round. The selected schemes represent close to 25 GW of offshore wind capacity using either floating or bottom-fixed technologies.
