Ireland's planning authority An Bord Pleanala last week allowed power utility Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and Bord Na Mona to proceed with their revised up to 172-MW Oweninny wind project in County Mayo.
An Bord Pleanala approved plans to install 61 wind turbines at the project site near Bellacorick instead of 112 units as initially planned.
The permit came with 20 conditions. However, the developers will not be obliged to make payments to a community benefit fund because the Board “considered the imposition of a condition in the present circumstances was not necessary”.
ESB and Bord Na Mona are developing the project through their joint venture Oweninny Power Limited. The companies expect to start construction work next year, with plans to have it completed before 2020, Ireland's national public service broadcaster Raidio Teilifís Eireann (RTE) said.
