The board of directors of fusion energy company Tri Alpha Energy Inc is welcoming a new member, Ernest Moniz, the physicist who served as US Secretary of Energy from May 2013 to January 2017.
The company aims to create a fusion electric generator that will be compact, safe and carbon-free. In its work it applies advanced particle accelerator and plasma physics.
“Ernie's wide breadth of experience in innovative energy technologies and policies will help further our company's pursuit of safe, clean, sustainable, and commercially competitive fusion based electricity generation,” said CEO Steve Specker.
During Moniz’s term at the Department of Energy (DOE), the country saw a significant drop in the cost of clean energy, advances in energy technology innovation, strengthened strategic partnerships with the 17 national laboratories, and major steps in the joint work with the Department of Defense and national security establishments. Before 2013 he had spent four decades at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
