Norwegian state-controlled energy company Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR) said on Monday its board of directors has appointed Anders Opedal as the company’s new president and CEO effective November 2.
Opedal, who up to now served as executive VP of technology, projects and drilling, said he will work to speed up the development of Equinor "as a broad energy company" and grow its renewables portfolio.
"The board’s mandate is for Anders to accelerate our development as a broad energy company and to increase value creation for our shareholders through the energy transition," said Equinor's board of directors chair, Jon Erik Reinhardsen.
The new head will succeed Eldar Saetre who is retiring after six years at the wheel. Saetre will remain available to advise the new CEO until March 2021.
