Australian renewables developer Epuron Pty Ltd has received planning approval to build an up to 372-MW wind farm in central Queensland’s Rockhampton region.
The planning consent was granted by the Queensland government, the developer said in a project update on Wednesday. It will organise two information sessions in December to present its proposal and discuss it with the local community. The events are scheduled for December 8 and 9.
Тhe Boulder Creek project calls for the installation of up to 60 turbines and related infrastructure near the town of Mount Morgan. With its construction expected to take between 18 and 24 months, the wind park is planned to start generating power towards the end of 2022.
During the construction phase, up to 350 jobs will be opened, Epuron said. The developer is currently finalising documentation for the project’s assessment and approval under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
Once completed, Boulder Creek will be the first large-scale wind farm in Queensland’s Rockhampton region. Its location was chosen due to the strong wind resource, high voltage transmission lines and good road access, Epuron explained.
