EPI gets drilling nod for 40-MW Philippine geothermal plant
Jun 10, 2014 - The Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has cleared local renewable energy group Emerging Power Inc (EPI) to start drilling works for a 40-MW geothermal power project on the island of Mindoro.
As a result, the company will begin drilling activities on the USD-180-million (EUR 133m) scheme in July, it said in a statement last week.
The project will consist of two 20-MW units -- which will supply power to both Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro. The geothermal plant is to start power generation in 2016.
EPI has already entered into power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO) and Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (OMECO).
